Final Five Players Named to USA Walker Cup Team

Stewart Hagestad, Mason Howell, Jacob Modleski, Tommy Morrison, and Jase Summy have been named to the 2025 USA Walker Cup Team by the USGA’s International Team Selection working group. They join Jackson Koivun, Ben James, Michael La Sasso, Ethan Fang, and Preston Stout, who were previously selected. Team USA will compete against Great Britain and Ireland at Cypress Point Club on September 6–7, 2025.

Stewart Hagestad
Veteran leader with three U.S. Mid-Amateur titles and experience on four previous Walker Cup teams. Finished 8th at the 2025 Northeast Amateur and reached the Round of 16 at the Western Amateur.
Mason Howell
2025 U.S. Amateur champion at The Olympic Club. Shared medalist honors at U.S. Open Final Qualifying with consecutive 63s. Medalist at the U.S. Junior Amateur; committed to Georgia in 2026.
Jacob Modleski
Notre Dame standout who reached the quarterfinals of the U.S. Amateur in 2024 and 2025. ACC individual champion and Western Amateur semifinalist. Winner of the 2024 Jones Cup Invitational.
Tommy Morrison
Texas senior who won the 2025 Amer Ari Invitational. First American to win the European Amateur in 2024, earning a start in The Open Championship. Former U.S. Junior Amateur medalist.
Jase Summy
Oklahoma senior and 2025 Western Amateur champion. Set program record with 20 rounds under par in 2024–25. Strong summer with top finishes at the Southern and Sunnehanna Amateurs.
Great Britain & Ireland Team Outlook
The R&A has already confirmed four automatic selections based on WAGR: Tyler Weaver (ENG), Cameron Adam (SCO), Dominic Clemons (ENG), and Connor Graham (SCO). The remaining six players will be announced by captain Dean Robertson following the U.S. Amateur. Likely additions include Eliot Baker, Charlie Forster, Stuart Grehan, Luke Poulter, Niall Shiels Donegan, and Gavin Tiernan.
GB&I enters Cypress Point with confidence after defeating the Continent of Europe 16.5–8.5 in the St. Andrews Trophy in July. That lineup featured nine of the leading Walker Cup candidates, giving a strong preview of the team Robertson will bring to Pebble Beach.

The Walker Cup is a 10-man amateur team competition between the USA and Great Britain & Ireland. Played over two days, the format includes 18 singles matches and eight foursomes (alternate-shot) matches. Cypress Point Club last hosted in 1981, when the USA defeated GB&I, 15–9.

The first United States Walker Cup Team, which

1922 defeated the GB&I side, 8-4, at the
National Golf
Links of America, is considered among the best
teams
ever and included Francis Ouimet, Bob Jones,
Charles
“Chick” Evans and Jess Sweetser. Many of the
game’s
greatest players have taken part in Walker Cup
competition, including U.S. Open champions

Nicklaus, Tiger Woods and Jordan Spieth for
the
USA
and Graeme McDowell, Rory McIlroy and Justin
Rose
for Great Britain and Ireland.
