RUMFORD, R.I. — Taylor Funk, a sophomore at the University of Texas, worked around three bogeys on day one of the Northeast Amateur to post five-under 64 and lead by a stroke.

Funk, who is the son of PGA Tour and Champions Tour player Fred Funk, began his round on hole 10 of Wannamoisett Country Club and finished eagle-birdie on the back side to springboard the rest of his round. He reached the front side, making two more birdies at 1 and 2 before going even his last seven holes to shoot 64 at the 6,700-yard par-69.

Trailing just one back of Funk is New Zealand's Nick Voke, who is a junior at Iowa State. Voke was just even-par through 10 before making four birdies in his last eight holes to post four-under.

A pair of SEC golfers, LSU's Zach Wright and Vanderbilt's Theo Humphrey, are tied for third at three-under.

In total, 17 players broke par on day one, including defending champion Stewart Jolly who carded two-under 67 and is tied for fifth.
