ALEXANDRIA, La. — Page Breaux of St. Gabriel Scott Haynie of Brusly fired a nine-under par 63 Sunday at OakWing Golf Club in Alexandria to win the Louisiana Golf Association Senior Four-Ball Championship by two strokes over Frank Brame and Ben Hargis of Alexandria. Breax’s driving distance and accuracy, combined with Haynie’s course management and consistency made a formidable duo.

Haynie is a decorated LGA Champion, having won the LGA Amateur in 1993 and Mid-Amateur Championship in 2002. Breaux is a mainstay at the top of the leaderboard at LGA Championships, and this is an especially sweet victory for him because it’s his first State Championship. Breaux and Haynie, members at The University Club in Baton Rouge, shot a 65 in the first round, and coupled with Sunday’s 63, they finished with a total of sixteen-under par 128 for the Championship. They played a bogey-free round on Sunday that included nine birdies of which Breaux contributed five, while Haynie carded four birdies, a true team effort.

Breaux and Haynie were in Sunday’s final pairing, and they trailed 18 hole leaders Mark Graff and Lewis Lauve by two strokes when the final round began. Each team member contributed a par on the par 4 1st hole. Haynie made the team’s first birdie on the par 5 2nd hole and added another par at the par 4 3rd hole. Breaux made a par at the par 3 4th hole and then Haynie tacked one more par on at the par 4 5th hole. Breaux added a birdie at the par 4 6th hole and another par at the par 4 7th. Haynie kept the momentum going with back-to-back birdies at the par 3 8th and the par 5 9th, and they made the turn at four-under par 32.

After a par on the par 3 10th hole, Breaux made a birdie on the par 4 11th. Haynie made a par on the par 4 12th and then Breaux added another par on the par 4 13th. That’s when Breaux made the run that won them the Championship. He made three consecutive birdies on holes 14, 15, and 16. After Breaux made a par on the 3 17th hole, Haynie put the “icing on the cake” with a birdie at the par 4 18th , bringing their back nine total to 31.

Rounding out the top 5 are: 2. Brame and Hargis (130), T3. Dennis Smith and Brad Mosing of Lafayette (131), T3. Mark Graff of Boyce and Lewis Lauve of Alexandria (131), 5. Eddie Lyons and Shelby Houston of Shreveport (132).

The low round of the Championship went to Donnie Chatelain of Baton Rouge and Ricky Morse of Zachary who fired a ten-under par 62 on Sunday (32/30). The shot of the day went to Mark Graff who holed out with a 5 iron from 175 yards on the par 4 18th hole. His eagle provide the scorecard playoff victory over Smith and Mosing that was used to determine the prizes in the tie for third place.

OakWing Golf Club is in superb shape right now and drew rave reviews from the top Senior golfers in Louisiana. OakWing’s grounds crew, led by Superintendent Jeremy Buckles, did a wonderful job all week in preparation for this event and getting the golf course in Championship condition. The greens were smooth and rolling true at an 11. The 2015 LGA Senior 4-Ball Championship was played at approximately 6,510 yards on Sunday. Conditions were ideal for scoring, with temperatures in the upper 70s with a slight breeze and cloud cover but no rain.

The LGA is also conducting a Super Senior Championship for participants 65 years of age and older, playing from a forward set of tees. Henry Cole of Monroe and Mark Tolson of Lafayette took the Super Senior Championship title after firing a two-day total of eleven-under par 133. Cole and Tolson shot a 67 in the first round and a 67 in Sunday’s final round. Russ Gaudin and Lew Ward of Baton Rouge finished runner-up at eight-under par 136.
