Florida defends title at Southeastern Challenge Matches

ALEXANDRIA CITY, Ala. — Team Florida came to Willow Point Country Club, in Alexander City, Ala., looking to defend the title in the 15th Southeastern Challenge Matches.
After Saturday morning's Four-Ball (better-ball of partners) Matches, both Florida & Georgia were tied at the top, with 4 points each, while Alabama had sat in 3rd with 1 point. Saturday afternoon's 6 three-ball/foursome matches (alternate shot) saw Georgia slide ahead, capturing 7.5 points in the session, while Florida posted 6.5 points, and Alabama earning 4.
Sunday morning saw Florida coming in trailing Georgia by 1 point, with a possible 24 points available in the 12 Three-Ball Singles Matches. Florida would amass 14.5 points in the singles, lead by: 2015 Senior Amateur Champion, Gordon Marshall, of Sarasota, 2015 Mid-Amateur Stroke Play Champion, Joe Alfieri, of Lutz, 2015 Mid-Senior Champion, Stephen Anderson, of Hobe Sound, Jeronimo Esteve, of Windermere, and Tim Hume, of Crystal River, all going 2-0 in three-ball matches.
The Southeastern Challenge Match is a biennial tri-state match featuring 12 man amateur teams from Alabama, Florida and Georgia. Team are selected by their state golf association by varying criteria including points lists and performance in other state and national events. Day one features morning four-ball (better-ball of partners) matches and afternoon three-ball/foursomes (alternate shot) matches; day two is morning three ball matches.

The Southeastern Challenge Matches are a biennial
Ryder Cup style match play competition pitting
twelve
man amateur teams, eight Mid-Amateurs and four
Seniors, from Alabama, Florida and Georgia. The
Matches consist of four-ball, foursome and individual
matches over two days, with one point awarded to
the winning team for each match. One-half point is
awarded to each side for halved matches. The host
site rotates among the three states.
