Oklahoma Spring Four-Ball: Team of Klaus and Johnson Win in Playoff

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK (May 10, 2016) - It took one playoff hole but first round leaders Ben Klaus and Cooper Johnson were able to close out the Oklahoma Spring Four-Ball. The team of Klaus, a former University of Oklahoma player, and Cooper shot two-day scores of 64-66 to finish regulation at Twin Hills Golf and Country Club 14-under. Over the course of 36-holes the two combined for 17 birdies and just three bogeys.

Despite two very strong rounds by the eventual victors Patrick Collogan and Craig Poet were able to chase them down during the final round. Trailing by three shots to begin the day Collogan and Poet knew they had to make a move and they did firing a bogey-free 9-under 63. The round got off to a blistering start for the pair as they combined for six birdies on the first nine holes. Three more birds followed on the back nine.

However, the comeback bid fell just short when Klaus and Cooper won the tournament on the first extra hole.

Sam Humphreys and Draegen Majors finished one-stroke out of the playoff at 13-under and in third place.

SENIOR DIVISION

After an opening round bogey-free 8-under 64, Mike Hughett and Kirk Wright came back on Tuesday and combined for a 5-under 67 during the final round to win the Senior Division by three-strokes at 13-under.

During the second round Hughett and Wright combined for seven birdies and their only two bogeys of the week. The duo was able to put the tournament away for good on holes 13-16 when they carded three birdies during the four hole stretch.

Blake Gibson and Brian McGreevy were second at 10-under while the teams of Don Cooke and Bob Sine; Michael Alsup and Ken Kee shared third at 9-under.

ROUND ONE RECAP

In nearly a flawless round of golf Ben Klaus and Cooper Johnson have taken the lead at the Oklahoma Spring Four-Ball. On day one the team paced the field at Twin Hills Golf & Country Club with an 8-under 64 and lead by one-stroke.

On the day Klaus and Johnson combined for nine birdies and only one bogey, which came on the 18th. The duo set the tone for the day with four birdies on their first six holes.

In second place one back are Bradley Durr and Jim Kemp at 7-under while Sam Humphreys and Draegen Majors are in third place thanks to a 6-under 66.

SENIOR DIVISION

Mike Hughett and Kirk Wright played splendid golf on the first day of the Oklahoma Spring Senior Four-Ball and lead by three-strokes. The duo combined for a bogey-free opening round.

On the front nine the pairing started with three straight pars before rattling off three consecutive birdies on holes 4-6. The strong play continued on the back nine with birdies on 13 and 14, an eagle on the par-5 16th and one final birdie on 17.

They carry a three-stroke lead into tomorrow's final round over Michael Alsup and Ken Kee who are in second place at 5-under. Two teams are tied for third at 3-under and four more are tied for fifth following an opening round 2-under tally.
