HUNTSVILLE, AL (May 15, 2016) - Bryan Askew, 51, of Decatur fired a final round 70 to finish at two-under 211 to win his first Alabama Golf Association championship title. Askew, a sales manager for Acme Brick, was the only player to break par for the championship.

“I really hit the ball great this week,” Askew said. “I have played a number of rounds at Huntsville Country Club and that experience helped me.”

Playing with Askew, 36-hole co-leader and two- time State Senior champion Emile Vaughan of Pike Road was tied for the lead after nine holes. But an inward nine of 37 derailed his hopes for a third title.

Del Wood III of Vestavia Hills gave his best effort to chase down Askew. His final round 69 placed him in the clubhouse lead at even par 213. However, Askew parred his last two holes to seal the victory.

In the Super Senior (65+) division, Ron Aldy of Tuscaloosa (218) took home a two shot victory over Wayne Gardner of Mobile (220).

Defending champion David Hancock of Greenville posted a final round 74 to finish in 15th place at 222.

Awards were presented to the low three 54-hole scores in the 50-56 and 57-64 age divisions as well as the overall Champion, and to the low three scores in the 65+ age division that played a shorter course. In addition, the Champion will have his name engraved on a permanent trophy housed at the AGA office.
