CROFTON, MD (June 29, 2016) -- The Virginia pairing of Jason Pool and Tim Krouse combined for a 7-under-par 33-32--65 and won the 10th annual Mid-Am/Senior Four-Ball tournament by two shots at Crofton Country Club, June 29. It marked the first appearance for the two in the event, which drew 32 teams on a mild, sunny day.
Pool, from River Bend Golf & CC, had five birdies, including a 20-foot putt at the 13th to start a string of three in a row, while Krouse, from Westwood CC, backed him with one birdie on each side, including one at the par-5 16th, where he came through with a two-putt from 30 feet when Pool was out of the hole. They were never in any real danger of a bogey.
Ryan Chamberlain and Carlos Sera, from the GC at South River, finished second with 33-34--67, trailed by Alex Hosier and Tom Grem from Hunt Valley GC, 35-33--68, and John Cooley, Crofton CC, and Chuck Freedman, Bowie G&CC, 34-34--68. Both Chamberlain and Hosier supported their respective teams with an eagle-3 at the 476-yard second hole. Chamberlain hit a 3-wood shot short of the green and chipped in, while Hosier hit a 4-iron shot to eight feet.
Overall, Chamberlain addded four birdies, while Sera has a birdie and a bogey; Chamberlain, four birdies and Sera, one, while Hosier (3) and Grem (2) teamed for five birdies, but also tossed in three bogeys. Freedman and Cooley had six birdies to go with two front-nine bogeys for their round.
