BANDON, Oregon (Oct 24, 2006) -- Freshman Jamie Lovemark led wire-to-wire to win his first collegiate tournament, leading the No. 14 USC men’s golf team to a second-place place finish on the final day of the 2006 Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge on Tuesday (Oct. 24) at the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Bandon, Ore.
The Trojans finished with a 54-hole 890 (+38), which included a final-round 290, low round of the day. USC posted rounds of 295 and 305 on Monday. Troy was five shots behind first-place UCLA (885, +33) and four ahead of third-place Wisconsin (894, +42).
Lovemark, who led the 60-man field with a par 142 (70-72) yesterday, clinched the title with a final-round 67 for a three-day 209 (-4). He won the tournament going away, eight shots ahead of his next closest competitor, Daniel Im of UCLA (217, +4).
The individual title was USC’s first since Ben Hayes won the Opus Husky Invitational to kick off the 2004-2005 season. Lovemark’s 67 was his second round in the 60s this year after a 66 at The Prestige at PGA West last week.
Senior Joshua Wooding posted his highest finish of the young season, tying for 11th with a 225 (+12). He carded a 2-over 72 in today’s final round.
Senior Jordan Nasser turned in his third top 30 finish in as many outings, tying for 28th with a 229 (+16) after a final-round 77.
Freshman Rory Hie fired his tournament-best 74 to tie for 37th with a 231 (+18) while sophomore Tom Glissmeyer finished tied for 39th with a 232 (+19). He also turned in his best effort of the competition with a 75 on Tuesday.
USC’s second-place finish was its second Top 2 finish in three outings. Troy, led by Lovemark’s third-place effort and Glissmeyer’s fifth-place mark, won the Inverness Intercollegiate to open the season in September.
