SEASIDE, Calif. (May 20, 2017) -- Near perfect conditions greeted players for the first round of the Monterey Bay Championship, the oldest AmateurGolf.com Tour event. Founded in 2001, just a year after the company started, the tournament is played across both the Black Horse and Bayonet layouts, with today's first round at Black Horse. Both are former military courses that now host amateur golfers from everywhere on a daily basis, and tournaments such as the PGA Club Professional Championship.

Leader Ryan Grauman's card today was nearly spotless. The high school junior, 17, made all 4's and a 3 on the front nine, and birdied his final hole after finding a bit of trouble off the tee.

"It was nice finishing that way and getting into the 60s," said Grauman.

Indeed, that birdie for 3-under 69 also provides him a small cushion over USC redshirt player Ryan Slater of Gilroy, who put together front and back nines of 35 for a 2-under 70. Devin Hua (72) and KK Limbhasut (73) will round out the final foursome.

The shot of the day may belong to Corey Rohm of Clovis. He drove the par-4 6th, then holed a 15-foot putt for eagle, then made birdie on No. 7.

Corey's dad Donald Rohm is tied for second place with Tony Ralph of Sunnyvale in the senior division at 79, behind Pete Wlodkowski of Carlsbad, and AmateurGolf.com (76).

Tomorrow's final round is an 8:30am shotgun on the always challenging Bayonet.
