Auchterarder, Scotland (Aug. 28, 2018) – France’s Victor Veyret leads the Carrick Neill Scottish Men’s Open Championship at the halfway stage at Gleneagles.
The 2016 Italian Amateur Champion carded the lowest round of Round 2, a 5-under 65, to rocket himself to the top of the leaderboard on his own at six-under-par.
“Today was a very good day, I hit a lot of solid iron shots and my putting was very good too. I am very happy,” Veyret said after his round.
“Teeing off early at 7:30 a.m. created a good opportunity as it was fairly calm for my front nine which is the more difficult of the two nines. I made five birdies and an eagle, and only two dropped shots.
The joint leader on day one, Euan Walker, followed his opening-round 67 with an impressive 68 Tuesday to take sole possession of second place, one shot behind Veyret at 5 under.
Nurtai Saldarov and Stuart Easton are well placed in a group of six players tied for third place at 2-under par, all of whom will look to get off to a quick start tomorrow to close the gap on the leaders.
Scottish Amateur Champion Euan McIntosh is a two shots further behind on level par, after carding a second round 72.
As Day 2 closed in the stunning Perthshire hills, the cut fell at 3-over par. The top 40 players (and ties) will resume battle tomorrow at The King’s Couse with only nine shots separating the field.
