White Sands Men's Collegiate: Ole Miss and Jackson Suber win
Ole Miss rode the wave of a stellar second round to run away with an 11-shot victory at The White Sands Collegiate in the Bahamas.
After the first round, the Rebels were tied for second place, but their team score of 12-under during the second round gave them all the breathing room they needed for the third round. East Tennessee St. finished a distant second at 15-under par and San Francisco finished in third at 13-under par.
"I'm proud of the way these guys finished their rounds each day," head coach Chris Malloy told Ole Miss sports. "Today we got off to a great start but really struggled midway through the round. However, they were able to refocus and finish like a champion. Winning is hard to do in our sport. Winning is also contagious and I look for them to build on this and take the same mindset into the spring semester."
The victory was the biggest team victory for Ole Miss since a 14 shot triumph in the 2017 Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic.
Leading the Rebels was Jackson Suber who logged scores of 68-67-70 to claim his third career medalist honor. Stuber led the field in par 4 scoring and was second in par five scoring. His one shot victory was made a bit more difficult with a streaking Toby Bridges who shot a tournament low 65 in the third round to nearly chase down Suber.
South Florida’s Albin Bergstrom rounded out the top three at six-under. Suber’s Ole Miss teammate Brett Schnell and Evan Brown helped the team’s cause finishing T7 and T11, respectively.
