The design team at FootJoy has been busy, and not just with
new models of their top-selling golf shoes, gloves, and accessories.
The Fairhaven, Mass. - based company is also a full line apparel company now -- you likely own more than one FJ piece if you are reading this story on AmateurGolf.com. It started off with what performance raingear, shirts, pants/shorts, and a few other items.
But with the surge in golf, FJ has responded to the new players in the game, while paying homage to the history of the game by adding classy touches to every piece in their collection -- even tee shirts, sweatshirts, and beanies.
My favorite? The full zip performance hoodie. So you can imagine my delight when a special FJ U.S. Open Collection box arrived with a few samples, spearheaded by that piece. Check out the video below, which I shot at San Diego's Balboa Park Golf Course, while pondering the migration of The Open west to east, from Torrey Pines in 2021 to The Country Club this year.
Even if you can't get to The Open, I'm sure there is something in the collection you'll want to rock on the course. A unique feature of these pieces is the combination of the U.S. Open logo
The author is "all-in" on the Full-Zip (and the famous squirrel of The Country Club as its center) with a smaller, very subtle logo near the bottom cuff featuring silhouettes of Francis Ouimete and his then 10-year old caddie, Eddie Lowery. (I challenge you to even ponder a 10-year-old on the bag at Brookline this year!)
You can order any of the pieces at
FootJoy.com/us-open. But before you do that, please indulge me as I describe my new favorite hoodie -- the 2022 U.S. Open Limited Edition Full Zip. The material is soft, a little stretchy, but not too tight. The hood itself is the perfect size to not interfere with a golf swing but still look really sporty -- especially with the checkered detail on the inside. (I probably should have worn a solid shirt in the photo, but who minds "checks on checks" these days...)
Full-zip means easy on and off, and the U.S. Open logo is the left-front chest. I also love the quilted design on the front for warmth, combined with the solid back and sleeves for smooth swinging. Two pockets to keep your hands warm or store a ball marker or glove are functional and stylish, as is the bottom cuff.
So while you are watching the U.S. Open this weekend, do some online shopping for yourself. Or better yet, if you are sitting next to dad and haven't picked up anything for him for Father's Day, show him the site and pick something out together.
Let's hope the ams stay in the mix, as is only fitting where Francis Ouimet made American Sports history in 1913.
