Northwestern and UCLA's Zoe Campos remain hot at Silverado Showdown
With the championship season right around the corner, Northwestern is picking the right time of the year to get hot.
The Wildcats won their second tournament in as many outings on Wednesday at the Silverado Showdown in Napa, Calif., where UCLA'sw Zoe Campos walked away with medalist honors.
At 9-over, 14th-ranked Northwestern claimed a seven-stroke victory over No. 6 Texas A&M while UCLA (+18), USC (+22) and Pepperdine (+26) rounded out the top-five. No. 5 Oregon (+32), No. 9 Arizona State (+32) and No. 11 San Jose State (+36) finished well off the pace.
Zoe Campos The Wildcats began the day with a commanding 16-shot lead over the Aggies, which proved to be enough of a cushion to survive a 13-over round of 301 on Wednesday. The win comes on the heels of the Wildcats impressive victory two weeks ago at the PING/ASU Invitational Championship at Papago Golf Course in Phoenix.
Northwestern was paced by Dianna Lee, a freshman from San Diego, who tied for second with Texas A&M's Hailee Cooper and USC's Catherine Park at 2-under, three back of Campos. Lee finished on a roll with birdies on her final four holes to card her second consecutive round of 69 (-3). Junior Jieni Li was the only other Northwestern player to finish in the top-10, tying for fifth at 1-over (68-74-75).
Campos carded rounds of 67-73-71 to claim the individual title at 5-under, her second consecutive medal following her victory at the Anuenue Spring Break Classic in Maui last week. With her latest win, Campos receives an exemption into the LPGA Chevron Championship later this month.
According to UCLA Athletic Communications, Campos is the first Bruin since 2018-19 to win multiple medals in a single season since 2018-19 when UCLA's trio of Patty Tavatanakit (three wins), Mariel Galdiano (two wins) and Beth Wu (two wins) achieved the feat.
