Adela Cernousek and Texas A&M widen the lead at the NCAA women's championships

For the second day in a row,
Adela Cernousek and Texas A&M lead the NCAA Division I women's championships at the La Costa Resort and Spa Champions Course in Carlsbad, Calif.
Cernousek has been impressive, shooting three rounds of 4-under 68 to get to 12-under and lead Lottie Woad of Florida State by six shots. Cernousek recorded a 31 on the front nine with five birdies to get to 13-under and then birdied No. 10 to push the lead all the way to 14-under, but two bogeys on holes No. 12 and 13 to fall to 12-under.
The first-round leader, Woad, is in solo second place at 6-under with rounds of 65-74-71. She recently won the 2024 Augusta National Women's Amateur.
Maria Jose Marin of Arkansas is in solo third place at 5-under with rounds of 72-68-71. Six golfers are T4 at 4-under.
Cernousek is currently ranked No. 45 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com Women's Rankings. She has put together an impressive season, finishing in solo second place at the 2023 Stephens Cup, finishing T6 at the SEC Women's Championships, and T3 at the NCAA Women's South Regional. She also recently earned medalist honors at the 2024 U.S. Women's Open Qualifying.
Texas A&M continues to lead in the team competition, but its five-shot lead has turned into a one-shot lead over Stanford. Texas A&M shot a third-round 1-over 289 to fall to 10-under, while Stanford shot a 3-under 285 to get to 9-under.
Texas A&M has shot rounds of 281-284-289, and Stanford has shot three rounds of 285.
LSU is in solo third place at 1-under, Clemson is in solo fourth place at 2-over, and Northwestern is in solo fifth place at 9-over. LSU is in solo third place even though No. 1 ranked amateur Ingrid Lindblad is 13-over and T101 through 54 holes.
All 30 teams competed in the first three rounds, Friday through Sunday, in a 54-hole stroke play tournament.
The field has now been cut to 15 teams for Monday's fourth and final round of stroke play. The top eight teams will move on to match play, with the quarterfinals and semifinals on Tuesday and the national championship match on Wednesday.
