The United States Golf Association (USGA) today announced qualifying sites for the 45th U.S. Senior Open Championship, to be held at The Broadmoor’s East Course, in Colorado Springs, Colo., from June 26-29. The Broadmoor is hosting its third Senior Open and ninth USGA championship.
For the first time since its inception in 1980, the U.S. Senior Open will feature a qualifying framework comparable to the U.S. Open, with two stages that include local and final sites. The USGA has established 27 exemption categories from local and final qualifying, including five-year exemptions for the major champions of the Senior PGA Championship, Senior Open Championship, Kaulig Companies Championship, and Regions Tradition. Winners of the U.S. Senior Open from 2014-24 are also exempt.
The establishment of 24 local exemptions will include, but not be limited to, PGA Tour Champions winners from the last five seasons, the top 75 players in the Charles Schwab Cup standings as of March 26, winners of select state senior open and state senior amateur championships in 2024, and the top 25 age-eligible players from the World Amateur Golf Ranking®/WAGR® as of March 26.
“The structure of the U.S. Senior Open qualifying model has evolved, but its openness has been retained while at the same time providing skilled professional and amateur competitors, through the work of Allied Golf Associations and host clubs, an opportunity to earn a place in the championship field,” said USGA Chief Championships Officer John Bodenhamer. “The USGA is once again proud to bring senior golf’s most prestigious championship to The Broadmoor as 156 players vie for the Francis D. Ouimet Memorial Trophy in this historic setting.”
Local qualifying, conducted over 18 holes at 32 sites in 25 U.S. states, will take place from April 3 to May 9. Those players who advance will join a group of locally exempt players in final qualifying, which will also be conducted over 18 holes. This final stage will be held at 12 sites across the U.S. from May 19 to June 12.
Online player registration began on Feb. 18 and will continue until Wednesday, March 26, at 5 p.m. E.T.

Local sites include The Omni Homestead Resort’s Cascades Course, in Hot Springs, Va., which will host qualifying for the 11th consecutive time in which it has been contested and 21st overall. The resort is hosting this year’s U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur Championship.
Worthington Hills Country Club, in Columbus, Ohio, and Wynlakes Golf and Country Club, in Montgomery, Ala., will each serve as a qualifying site for the 11th time. Florence (S.C.) Country Club is a site for the 10th time since 1991. Goose Creek Golf Club, in Jurupa Valley, Calif., and Indiana (Pa.) Country Club will host a qualifier for the ninth and eighth times, respectively.
To be eligible, a player must have a Handicap Index® not exceeding 2.4, be a professional, and be 50 years of age at the start of the championship. California has four local qualifying sites, the most of any state. Texas will host three local qualifiers.
The final qualifying venues include The Country Club of Colorado in Colorado Springs, which will be a host site for the seventh time, but first since 2002. The Bear’s Club in Jupiter, Fla., is hosting qualifying for a fifth consecutive year. Golfcrest Country Club, in Pearland, Texas, is a qualifying site for the fourth time. Mesa (Ariz.) Country Club and Manor Country Club, in Rockville, Md., return to the rotation following a lengthy absence. Mesa last hosted in 2001, while Manor is hosting for the first time since 1991.
Don Pooley (2002) is the lone player to win the U.S. Senior Open after advancing through qualifying. In 2024, 22 qualifiers made the 36-hole cut at Newport (R.I.) Country Club.
The 2025 U.S. Senior Open will be the 36th USGA championship contested in Colorado. Four U.S. Senior Opens have been held in the Centennial State, including 2018 when David Toms carded an even-par 70 in the final round to finish one stroke ahead of Miguel Angel Jimenez, Jerry Kelly and Tim Petrovic at The Broadmoor’s East Course.
