Winged Foot Golf Club, the storied host of major championships, once again served as the proving ground for the game’s top mid-amateurs during the 88th Anderson Memorial Four-Ball Invitational. And when the final putt dropped on the famed West Course, it was the familiar duo of Jim Chestnut and Scott Strickland who emerged victorious — again.

The team from Oakland Hills Country Club successfully defended their title in dramatic fashion, capturing the Championship Division after a playoff win over Christian Cavaliere and Matt Minerva of Hudson National Golf Club.

Stroke Play Drama Sets the Stage

Both Chestnut/Strickland and Cavaliere/Minerva finished stroke play at 1-under 69, tied atop the leaderboard. Their performances were shaped by precision and course knowledge on a West Course playing to a championship yardage of 7,249 yards and a daunting course rating of 76.4.

  • Strickland’s round included a birdie on the par-5 12th.
  • Chestnut delivered a clutch stretch of steady golf, carding four birdies (Nos. 5, 9, 13, and 17).
  • Cavaliere and Minerva surged late, with Cavaliere birdieing 9, 10, and 17; Minerva birdied the par-3 13th.

The tie was settled in a playoff, where Chestnut and Strickland’s experience and calm under pressure made the difference.

A Legacy Preserved

The Anderson Memorial remains one of amateur golf’s most esteemed invitationals. Founded in 1933 to honor John G. Anderson — a pioneer of American golf — the event blends history, sportsmanship, and championship-caliber play across Winged Foot’s iconic East and West Courses.

With a format that includes 36 holes of qualifying stroke play and match play finals in two divisions, the Anderson tests strategy, endurance, and mental toughness.

Looking Ahead

As the dust settles on another thrilling week in Mamaroneck, Chestnut and Strickland join an elite group of back-to-back champions, stamping their legacy on a tournament that has endured for nearly nine decades.
