Now leading the pack is No. 2 seed Kevin Marsh (pictured), the 2008 and 2010 SCGA Player of the Year, who defeated Tony Behrstock of Los Angeles 1 up to advance to the Round of 16.

Nick Delio, who was looking for a three-peat after winning the event in 2009 and 2010, was defeated by Cavin McCall of El Cajon 2 and 1.

Also advancing to the Round of 16 is SCGA veterans Tim Hogarth and Jordan Nasser. The 3-seed Hogarth easily won his match 5 and 3, while the 2006 California State Amateur Champion Nasser beat Maxwell Marsico 3 and 2. Marsico made a name for himself last month after an impressive showing at the SCGA Amateur Championship at San Gabriel CC. Nasser, a graudate of USC, will move on to face UCLA golfer Alex Kim tomorrow.

six players are using this championship as a tune up for the U.S. Amateur Championship to be held at Erin Hills in Erin, Wisconsin. Arboleda, decorated SCGA champion Tim Hogarth, Kevin Dougherty, Kevin Fitzgerald, Alex Kim and Sam Yi have all qualified for the Amateur which takes place later this month.

In the senior division, No. 1 seed Brad Larsen of Oceanside defeated Frank Merhar of La Jolla 3 and 2 Monday in the first round of the SCGA Senior Match Play Championship, remaining eligible to defend his title. Also in the hunt still is 2009 Senior Match Play Champion Howie Knodt of Chula Vista, who as the two-seed defeated Mel Collins of Long Beach in 19 holes in his Round of 16 match.

No. 3 seed Donald Ludwig was the only top-seed from the bracket to be knocked out Monday, as the San Diego resident lost to Greg Grohs of Arcadia 4 and 2.
