Zach Taylor wins the Nebraska Junior Match Play

YORK, Nebraska (June 7, 2012) -- Zach Taylor of Omaha finished the week where he started, atop the leaderboard. Taylor won the 23rd Nebraska Junior Match Play Championship Thursday at York Country Club defeating Cale Benson of Grand Island 2-up in a 36-hole final. He was also the tournament's qualifying medalist Monday.
In the morning session Taylor held a 3-up lead following 5 holes only to see Benson win the next six holes to take his own 3-up lead. Taylor won five of the next seven holes to enter intermission 2-up.
After trading holes in the afternoon Benson was able to square the match on the the 34th hole, York Country Club's 16th after a Taylor 3-putt. With honors on the next hole, York's eventful 17th, Benson hit driver into a greenside water hazard. Taylor laid up eventually winning the hole with a conceded birdie. A pitch in birdie on the 36th hole sealed his first state championship.
