The Second Stage of the PGA Tour Q-School has come and gone as talented amateurs competed to earn a chance to participate in the Final Stage. After all five qualifiers had played out, only one amateur, Tennessee graduate Jake Hall, was able to advance.

Here’s a look at the amateurs who competed at each Second Stage site, how they played, and what was at stake for the world’s top professional and amateur players.

According to the PGA TOUR website, at the Second Stage, medalists (and ties) gain Korn Ferry Tour membership with guaranteed starts in the first eight events of 2025, provided they don’t improve their standing at the Final Stage.

Additionally, the next 10 finishers (and ties) at the Second Stage receive conditional membership through the Latin America Swing. At the Final Stage, the top five finishers (and ties) secure PGA TOUR cards for 2025, while the next 40 finishers (and ties) receive Korn Ferry Tour status, with guaranteed starts for either the first 12 or eight events, depending on their position.

Jake Hall, Knoxville, TN -- view profile

Hall comes off a stellar First Stage performance, where he shot 11-under to finish in 3rd place, just two shots shy of medalist honors as the only amateur to advance from the North Carolina qualifier. To advance to the First Stage, Hall finished 8th in Georgia’s Pre-Qualifying at 6-under.

A former Tennessee Volunteer, Hall boasts an impressive record, winning the 2023 All-American Intercollegiate and Tennessee State Amateur. He capped off his collegiate career with top finishes in major events, including T4 at the 2024 Cabo Collegiate and T7 at the SEC Championship, solidifying his place among the SEC's best.

Hall played incredible golf in the qualifier, and after all four rounds and 72 holes of the Second Stage qualifying, Hall finished 12-under and T18 with rounds of 70-68-67-71 to make the cut on the number.

His third round 5-under 67 consisted of six birdies and one bogey to propel him onto the right side of the cutline heading into the final 18 holes. His final round 1-under 71 was enough to keep him on the right side of the cutline.

Ben Warian, Stillwater, MN -- view profile

Warian secured his Second Stage berth by finishing T4 at First Stage with a score of 10-under. A former University of Minnesota standout, he achieved a runner-up finish at the 2024 West Regional and went on to win the Sunnehanna Amateur this summer, along with a semifinal appearance at the North and South Amateur. Warian was exempt into First Stage after making a cut on PGA TOUR Americas.

Warian shot rounds of 71-73-73-76 to finish 5-over and T46. With the cut falling at 7-under, Warian was never able to put himself in position to advance.

Florida Qualifier - Hammock Beach Conservatory, Palm Coast, FL

Final Results

Jeg Coughlin III, Dublin, OH -- view profile

After advancing through Pre-Qualifying in Ohio, Coughlin shot 9-under to finish T17 at First Stage. Coughlin, a mid-am and Ohio State alum, has earned medalist honors at both the U.S. Mid-Amateur and U.S. Open Local qualifiers. Notably, as reported by Monday Q Info’s Ryan French, Coughlin comes from a family of champions; his father, Jeg Coughlin Jr., is a five-time NHRA Drag Racing champion.

Coughlin got off to a great start, shooting a round of 1-under 71 and inside the cutline. However, he struggled the rest of the way, carding rounds of 75 and 72 to fall outside of the cutline heading into the final round, and then a final round of 7-over 79 to finish 9-over and T60.

Quinn Croker, Australia -- view profile

Australian standout Croker finished 8-under at First Stage, advancing with rounds of 70-71-67-72. Croker won the 2024 Australian Men’s Amateur, finished runner-up at the Southern Amateur, and a T3 finish at the Trans-Mississippi Amateur, along with a handful of good finishes on the Australian PGA Tour. Though listed as an Amateur, Croker reported to WAGR that he has turned pro.

Croker withdrew from the second stage site after a first round 4-over 76.

Nathan Petronzio, Bee Cave, TX -- view profile

Petronzio, a University of Texas graduate, advanced by finishing T17 at First Stage. Petronzio was runner-up at the 2024 Central Regional and had Top 10 finishes at the Big 12 Championship, Western Intercollegiate, and the Southern Highlands Collegiate. He was medalist at his U.S. Open Local qualifier this summer and added a T5 finish at the Jones Cup Invitational in January.

Petronzio also finished 9-over and T60 with Coughlin, but his worst round was his opening one. He shot a 5-over 77 first round and was never a factor, carding rounds of 77-72-74-74.

Georgia Qualifier #2 - Kinderlou Forest Golf Club, Valdosta, GA
December 3-6, 2024

Final Results

Gunnar Broin, Shorewood, Minn. -- view profile

Broin enters Second Stage with an exemption after making the cut at the 2024 U.S. Open, where he was one of only three amateurs to do so, finishing T70. Broin is a graduate Senior at Kansas, the only player on this list still on a college golf roster.

In 2024, Broin made match play at the U.S. Amateur and had top 10 finishes at the Windon Memorial and the Ka'anapali Collegiate, as well as a 4th place finish at the Bearcat Invitational. Broin earned medalist honors at the U.S. Open local qualifying in 2023 and 2024.

Broin struggled throughout the week in this contest, carding rounds of 76-77-77-73 to finish 15-over and solo 62nd place.

Alexandre Vandermoten, Glen St. Mary, Fla. -- view profile

Vandermoten advanced to Second Stage from Ocala Country Club, shooting a steady 7-under to finish T14 at First Stage. His 2024 season includes a victory at the Southeastern Amateur and top 15 performances in events like the Linger Longer Invitational and Florida Gators Invitational. Vandermoten, a former Jacksonville University player, has been a consistent performer on the amateur circuit.

Vandermoten shot rounds of 77-76-69-75 to finish 9-over and T46. His third round 3-under 69 was impressive, but the opening rounds of 5-under 77 and 4-under 76 proved too big of a hill to climb.
