RUMFORD, R.I. - Jordan Russell followed up a first round 63 with a three-under 66 to tie a tournament record with a nine-under score of 129 at the 51st Northeast Amateur.

Russell, who just graduated from Texas A&M, holds a three-stroke lead heading into round three. Only 14 players broke par on a 95-degree day that withered bodies and cracked swings.

Veteran Tim Jackson and Michael Hebert (65’s) enjoyed the low score of the day. Jackson is playing in his 18th Northeast Amateur and said he'd dearly love to win the event. He poured in six birdies in round two and has 13 after 36 holes.

Mitch Sutton of North Carolina State is third at 3-under and four players are seven shots back at 2-under, including 1990 champion Todd White.
