RUMFORD, R.I. – Jordan Russell maintained the lead he’s carried from the opening round of the 51st Northeast Amateur but his two-over 71 on Friday sets up what could be a wild final round at Wannamoisett Country Club.

Russell, a recent Texas A&M graduate, is seven-under-par and two strokes ahead of Michael Hebert and Tim Jackson. Hebert fired his second straight four-under 65, while Jackson maintained his steady play with a 70. Justin Shin also shot a 65 to move within striking distance at three-under. Todd White, the only defending champion (1990) in the field, shot his third consecutive 68 and is the only player in the tournament to fire three sub-par rounds.

After making 13 birdies over the first two rounds, Russell made just one in the third round. Hebert took advantage by sinking seven birdies in his round including four in a row on the back nine on holes 14-17.
