Mitchell wins Ill. Mid-Am a 4th time
(CDGA)
FLOSSMOOR, Ill. (Aug. 27, 2013) — Todd Mitchell shot a final round 70 at Flossmoor Country Club on Wednesday to complete a four-stroke victory in the 21st Illinois State Mid-Amateur Championship. The victory is the Bloomington native’s fourth victory in the Championship, all in the past six years (2008, ’10, ’11 and ’13). Defending champion Kyle Nathan of Glenview finished second after a final round 68 put him 4-under par for the week.
“I hit it well this week and drove the ball well, which helps a lot here,” Mitchell said following the victory. “When I did miss, I was fortunate that I didn’t make a second mistake back-to-back.”
Mitchell opened the event with a pair of 69s on Tuesday during the first two rounds, which coupled with Wednesday’s 70 left him 8-under par for the Championship, one shot better than his winning total at Flossmoor in 2011. Mitchell finished 13th in last year’s event here.
