SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (Feb. 16, 2014) -- Herb Jensen shot even-par 72 to take medalist honors and the No. 2 match-play seed in the Senior Division of the 2014 San Francisco City Championship.
Defending champion Gary Vanier will be the top seed when match play begins next weekend.
All told, there were 66 players vying for the 31 remaining match play berths. Eight players shot 80 and will play for the last two spots Saturday before the start of the first round.
Jensen bested three players for the top spot during qualifying. Scott Anderson, Steve Donnelly and Craig Gandy all shot 73 and will enter match play with lofty seeds.
In the Super Senior Division, Bob Olds took medalist honors with a 76. He beat out a quartet of players that finished just a shot behind at 77, including Jay Guerin, Robert Rowland, Early Stewart and Jim Welsh.
Ron Johnson will be the No. 1 seed as he returns to defend his title. The Super Senior flight has only 16 match play positions, leaving three players -- Steve C. Lewis, Robert Reed and Rob Thompson -- who shot 83 in qualifying to face off for the final berth Saturday March 1 before the start of match play in the flight.
