Texas N. Mid-Am: Trio shares early lead
DALLAS, Texas (March 28, 2014) -- The first
round of the 2014 North Mid-
Amateur Championship presented by UST
Mamiya got underway Friday at
the Prestonwood Country Club, Hills course in
Plano. The 6,496 yard course
isn’t overly long, but puts a premium on well-
placed tee shots. The 84 player
field was met with mild conditions ideal for
scoring.
Lewis Stephenson of Mansfield set the pace
early with a round of 4-under
par, 68. Finishing shortly after Stephenson was
Austin Haynes of Richardson
who matched the clubhouse leader with a 68.
Haynes recorded eight birdies
in his first round. Jeff Murray of Fort Worth
also went on to shoot 68 and will
take a share of the lead heading into the
second round on Saturday.
One shot behind the leaders at 3-under
par are Michael Pruitt of
Lubbock, and Dan Cook of Arlington. In all, 11
players finished under par for
the first round. With 17 players within 4 shots
of the lead heading into the
weekend, it is sure to be an exciting final 36-
holes of golf.
Round two will get underway on Saturday
morning at 8:00 AM with players
teeing off both the first and tenth tees. The
championship will conclude on
Sunday with the final 18-hole round.
