W. Penn. Mid-Am: Stimmel leads Smith, field

WEIRTON, W. Virg. (May 27, 2014) -- After one round of play, Rick Stimmel leads at the 2014 Western Pennsylvania Mid-Amateur Championship.
Stimmel shot 4-under 68 and leads by a shot at Williams Country Club.
He caught fire early and played a flawless back nine, totaling five birdies against just one bogey four on the par-3 eighth hole.
Tied for second place is a one of the nation's top mid-amateur golfers in two-time U.S. Walker Cup team member and four-time U.S. Mid-Amateur champion Nathan Smith, who shot 69 and is tied alongside Artie Fink, Jr.
Smith birdied two holes late in his round to sneak back towards the top of the leaderboard.
David Antill is fourth after a 2-under 70 while Mike Marron, Kevin Heher, Arnold Cutrell and David Brown all shot 71 and sit tied for fifth place heading into the second and final round on Wednesday.
