Amateurs finish well at Kentucky Senior Open
ALVATON, Ky. (July 9, 2014) -- As if The Club at Olde Stone wasn’t difficult enough on a hot and humid day – Mother Nature gave the field for the Prudential Kentucky Senior all they could handle for their final round on July 8 with breezy conditions and gusty winds.
Luckily, these strong winds were able to ward off any severe weather that was predicted for the Bowling Green area and allowing for an exciting final round! Professional Craig RauvolaBouta of Lexington was able to take on the difficult conditions of land and air with finesse, following up his first round 71 with a round of 73 to finish at even par for the Championship and the title of 2014 Kentucky Senior Open Champion. He got off to a rocky start with a double bogey at the first, but was able to right the ship going in with three birdies and another bogey.
Finishing closely behind were PGA Professional Pat Stephens of Richmond and Mark Knecht of Paducah at 2-0ver-par 146 for their two rounds.
Knecht carded an even par final round, while Stephens settled for a three-over-par 75. Buddy Bryant of Lexington, David Clement of Henderson and Gary Backlund of Mt. Sterling all finished at 152 and as the low Amateurs of the Championship.
In the Super Senior Division (Ages 60+ not wishing to compete in the Open Division), recent Kentucky Golf Hall of Fame inductee, Bruce Walters of Lexington continued his steady play by following his first round 76 with a 78.
He finished six shots ahead of his closest contenders: Joe Pavoni of Prospect, Wayne Ashlock of Louisville and Wes Bottom of Russell Springs. Sammy Levinson of Bowling Green finished an additional shot back, after firing a low round for the Division three-over-par 75.
