Colton Staggs wins Oklahoma Stroke Play
Colton Staggs
MONKEY ISLAND, Okla. (August 6, 2014) — Second-round leader and Tulsa, Okla. native Colton Staggs maintained his steady play at the Oklahoma Stroke Play Championship, winning the event with a final-round 71 on Wednesday.
Shooting rounds of 70-69-71, Staggs, who will be a senior this fall at The University of Tulsa, was the only player in the field to shoot three consecutive rounds under par. He fended off a late-round charge from Oklahoma City University sophomore Garrison Mendoza, who shot 69 on Wednesday to finish a stroke behind Staggs in a tie for second place.
Also tying for second was first-round co-leader Matthew Cheung — a teammate of Mendoza's at OKCU.
