SANTA FE, N.M. (Sept 9, 2014) -- Dr. Brad Kropp
and
Clark Collier (pictured)
stuck to the gameplan Tuesday and increased
their
lead in the Championship Division at the 34th
playing
of the Trans-Mississippi Four-Ball Championship.
In much windier conditions than Monday, the
Sunrise
Course at The Club at Las Campanas played
tougher
in the second round. Kropp and Collier were up
to the
task on the Jack Nicklaus Signature Course and
partnered for an 8-under-par 64. Playing two
different
styles of golf -- the older Kropp is shorter off the
tee
and steady; Collier is much longer and not
always as
straight -- they combined for nine birdies,
including
four straight to finish the day.
"I made a lot of putts today," Collier said. "I had
a few
'Xs' on the scorecard, too. But Doc took care of
me
when I was in my pocket."
With rounds of 66-64 for a 14-under 130 total,
Kropp
and Collier pushed their lead to six shots in the
Championship Division. The Amarillo, Texas,
team of
Ralph Ellis and Zack Norrell shot a 67 and sit in
second place at 8-under 136. Mark Mance from
Whitefish, Mont., and Jim Coleman from Billings,
Mont., share third place with Oklahoma City's
Jeff
Oakes and Johnson Cooper at 7-under 137.
Mance and Coleman combined for a 5-under 67
in the
second round. Oakes and Johnson teamed for a
4-
under 68.
Fourteen teams in the Championship Division
made
the 36-hole at 1-under 143.
In the Senior Division, the first round leaders
also put
more room between themselves and the field.
Herb
Fisher from The Woodlands, Texas, and Doug
Pool
from Las Vegas shot a 4-under 68 to stay out in
front.
Through 36 holes, they've posted 12-under 132,
good
for a five-shot lead over four teams.
Against a lone bogey, Fisher and Pool made
three
birdies and an eagle on the 347-yard par-4 14th
hole.
The duo, playing together for the first time in
the
Trans-Miss Four-Ball, made eight birdies Monday
on
their way to an opening round 64.
With one round to play, Fisher and Pool lead the
teams
of Robert McDonald III from Austin, Texas, and
Les
Devitt from Scottsdale, Ariz.; Jay Pumphrey
from
Georgetown, Texas, and Dave Clement from
Evansville, Ind.; Lee Sandlin and Warren
Huddleston
from Dallas and four-time Trans-Miss Four-Ball
champions Eddie Lyons from Shreveport and
John Pigg
from Bee Cave, Texas. All four teams are 7-
under 137
through 36 holes.
Eleven teams in the Senior Division made the
36-hole
cut at 2-under 142.
In the Super Senior Division, Steve Dallas and
Edward Smith from Mesa, Ariz., turned in a
bogey-
free, 5-under 67 to reach 12-under 132 for the
tournament. They lead Bob Fouke from Broken
Arrow,
Okla., and Gerry Graham from Mesa, Ariz., by
four
shots headed into the final round.
Fouke and Graham also played without a bogey
during
their round of 3-under 69.
Nine teams in the Super Senior Division made
the 36-
hole cut at 1-over 145.

ABOUT THE
Trans-Miss Four-Ball
One of four annual championships hosted each
year
by
the historic Trans-Mississippi Golf Association. Each
player must be a member of a Trans-Mississippi
member
club, but not necessarily the same club. Players who
do
not belong to a Trans-Miss member club can speak
to
their club's manager or board of directors to
encourage
them to join (dues are very reasonable and support
the
Trans-Miss Turf Scholarship Fund). Alternatively,
entrants may make a contribution in lieu of club
membership to the Turf Scholarship Fund.
