Beginning the day trailing third-round leader Beau Titsworth, a junior at the University of Oklahoma, Ball fired 62 on Saturday at the Donald Ross-designed Monroe Golf Club to complete a spectacular come-from-behind victory. The winning round was highlighted by the sub-30 back nine, which included four birdies and an eagle on the par-five 12th hole.

Nine players shared the opening-round lead at one-under 69, while Ball posted 74 on Tuesday. He slowly climbed back into contention with a 70 in round two, and a 69 in round three before surging from seemingly out of nowhere.

Titsworth, a native of Avon Lake, Ohio who held the second and third round leads, found himself two-over on his final round after a double bogey on hole 7. He fought back immediately with back-to-back birdies at 8 and 9 but failed to make a birdie on the back nine. Titsworth took for second place at three-under 277, one shot ahead of University of Virginia junior Derek Bard in third.

Recent Pepperdine University graduate Kevin DeHuff, who helped lead his Waves to a WCC Championship title in April, grabbed fourth place at one-under 279, despite shooting three-over in his final 36 holes. Tying for fifth were seniors Shotaro Ban of California-Berkeley and Alastair Tidcombe of Coastal Georgia.

ABOUT THE MONROE INVITATIONAL

The 72-hole, stroke play Monroe Invitational was first played in 1937 at the Ross-designed Monroe Golf Club in Pittsfield, New York. Ross began construction on the course in 1923, with play beginning on July 4, 1924. Included among the inaugural foursome was the noted Scottish professional Johnny Walker, who was to serve as the club's first head pro.

Last year’s champion, the big-hitting Taylor Pendrith, is now playing on the PGA Canada Tour.
