Put Mazzoli down for another big win. The reigning European Amateur champion assaulted the par-5s all week, taking advantage of scoring opportunities to leave the rest of the field behind and win the inaugural Orlando International Am. The Italian, who earned a spot at next year’s British Open with his European Am win, went 68-66-71 to finish with an 11-under 205 at the foggy Orange County National Golf Center’s Panther Lake course. There was an hour and 45 minute delay due to the fog in the final round.
Swede Oskar Bergqvist made a run on the final day, with an eagle on No. 2 and birdies on five of his last 10 holes to post a 68 for a total of 209, four shots behind Mazzoli. Bergqvist finished the second round in third place, but his 68 vaulted him over American Kyler Tate, who finished alone in third with a total of 211. University of Georgia golfer Sepp Straka finished one stroke back with a total of 212.
The round of the day went to Stoney Crouch, a junior at Lipscomb University hailing from Mount Juliet, Tenn. Crouch jumped forty spots to finish T-5 (213) after firing an unbelievable 64 on his final round. He was another golfer who took advantage of the par-5s, posting three eagles (Nos. 2, 10 and 18) and two birdies (Nos. 7 and 14) on those holes. A birdie on the par-4 8th hole and a bogey on the par-3 17th left him at 8-under for the day and gave him the low round of the tournament. Also tied for fifth were three Americans: Ben Fernandez, Andrew Whalen and Luis Gagne.
