MELBOURNE, Australia (January 10, 2016) --American golfer Aaron Wise (Lake Elsinore, Calif.) held on to win the Australian Master of the Amateurs hosted by Royal Melbourne Club.

Wise capped off a great week that included a hole-in-one in round one and a stretch of 6-under-par in five holes in round three with a less eventful 1-under par 71 in the final round. Wise lost his initial one-shot lead early in the final round as Englishman Jonathan Thomson birdied the first three holes to overtake him.

A double bogey by Thomson on hole four, however, gave the lead back over to Wise for which he would not surrender. Wise played very steady, not making any big mistakes and recording five birdies and four bogeys along the way.

As the winner of this prestigious championship, Wise will be awarded a green jacket and joins the list of champions that includes Jason Day. Wise is continuing his strong play from 2015 in which he won the Pacific Coast Amateur along with finishing runner-up at the Western Amateur.

Charlie Dann joined Wise and Thompson as the only players to break par, finishing in solo third at 1-under par and topping all other Australians in the field.
