NORMAN, OK (April 1, 2016)--Texas earned 17 of 21
first-place votes to move atop the ranking in the
Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll. The Longhorns
unseated Illinois, who has been ranked No. 1 in five
of
the seven polls this season, from the top spot.
The Illini tallied two first-place votes and
dropped
to second. Georgia also collected a first-place vote
and
moved up two spots to No. 3. Fourth-ranked
Southern
California received the lone remaining first-place
ballot.
Vanderbilt jumped nine places to No. 5 and was
followed by Auburn, Stanford, Florida State and
Arizona
State. Oklahoma State climbed two spots to enter
the
top 10.
Arkansas debuted in the top 25 at No. 24 while
Washington reentered the ranking at No. 25.
Penn State and Purdue dropped from the top 25.
MAJOR MOVERS
Texas moved from No. 7 to the top spot thanks
to
an impressive month of March. Following a T4 in the
Southern Highland Collegiate Masters the Longhorns
rattled off consecutive wins to close out the month.
The
first came at the Lamkin San Diego
Classic while the most recent victory was an
impressive win at
the Valspar
Collegiate. Texas has now won four of their last
five events.
The other big mover in this weeks poll was
Vanderbilt
leaping from No. 14 to No. 5. This the second
straight
poll where the No. 14 ranked team has moved to
fifth.
In the March 11th poll it was Georgia making the
move.
Vanderbilt made the jump thanks to a pair of
wins
in
March. Their first win came at the Schenkel
Invitational. As a team the Commodores were
an
impressive 41-under-par, winning the event by 10.
Just
this past week Vanderbilt was victorious at the
FarmLinks Collegiate Match Play.
The most notable drop in this weeks poll was
Florida.
They dropped from No. 8 to No. 15.
