Lewis Stephenson
THE WOODLANDS, TX (May 4, 2016) - Lewis Stephenson was able to extend his lead during today's Carlton Woods Senior Invitational second round. Stephenson is now 5-under and two clear of the rest of the field at the Club at Carlton Woods Fazio Course.
On Wednesday Stephenson was able to follow up a first round 69 with a second day, 2-under 70. Stephenson put together a 2-under 34 on the front nine and was cruising along until bogey's on 14 and 16 dropped him back to even on the day. At that point it looked as if Stephenson had lost his momentum but he quickly responded finishing his round birdie-birdie and restoring his two-stroke advantage.
Club at Carlton Woods member Mike Booker lingers in second place, 3-over, and two shots behind. Booker is the only other player to shoot two under-par rounds thus far with scores of 70 and 71. In third place is Michael Mercier, the final golfer in red figures, sitting at 1-under.
Bob Kearney and Mike Peck complete the top-five currently sharing fourth place with 1-over 36-hole tallies.
Lee Sandlin, the defending champion, is 6-over and tied for 10th.
ROUND ONE RECAP
Lewis Stephenson is the first round leader of the 2016 Carlton Woods Senior Invitational at The Club at Carlton Woods - Fazio Course. After a weather delay to begin the day, Stephenson opened with a 3-under 69 and leads by one over Steve Hakes and multiple time winner Mike Booker.
The Mansfield, TX resident carded five birdies and two bogey's during the first round. Stephenson took advantage of the par-5's birdieing all three.
Hakes and Booker, a Carlton Woods member, both shot 2-under 70 and are tied for second. Besides Stephenson, they are the only other players under-par after 18-holes.
Four players are tied for fourth at even-par and another four are 1-over and tied for eighth. Defending champion Lee Sandlin is part of the of 1-over group.
