D'Amelio and Foote leaders at Washington State Men's Best-Ball
SHELTON, WA (May 19, 2016) - John D'Amelio of Bothell and Jarrett Foote of Woodinville combined for a 4-under par 68 to hold a one-stroke lead after the opening round of the 60th Washington State Men's Best-Ball; while in the 23rd Senior Men's Best-Ball, Duane Diede of Everett and John Von Lossow of Kirkland were the only duo to break par, shooting a 2-under par 70 to hold a two-stroke lead heading into the final round.
The two championships are being held concurrently at Salish Cliffs Golf Club in Shelton, Wash. and are being conducted by the WSGA. A total of 100 two-man teams started the day's play.
Foote is a 2014 graduate of Washington State University where he played three years on the men's golf team. He and D'Amelio hold a one-shot lead over three teams heading into tomorrow's play. Scott Weitz of Bellevue and Court Watson of Issaquah, Tres Kirkebo of Lakewood and Jon McCaslin of Olympia, and Ben Garrett and Erik Olson, both of Seattle.
Olson and Garrett pose a formidable threat to the leaders. Olson is a 2007 graduate of the University of Washington, where he won the individual title in the 2005 Pac-10 Championship; while Garrett was a medalist in qualifying for the 2014 U.S. Mid-Amateur.
Diede and Von Lossow are trying for their second title in the championship, having won in 2014 when it was held at White Horse Golf Club in Kingston, Wash. Defending champions Mike Hickok and Chris DeGrazia are tied for sixth after today's round, four strokes back of Diede and Von Lossow.
The Washington State Men's Best-Ball Championship was previously known as the Inglewood Best-Ball from 1956 until 1993, when in 1994 the WSGA began to run the event and introduced the Senior Men's Best-Ball.
