LSU Claims Maui Jim Invitational
Medalist Luis Gagne (LSU Men's Golf Twitter)
SCOTTSDALE, AZ. (September 25, 2016) -- The LSU Tigers claimed the inaugural Maui Jim Intercollegiate Sunday, shooting an impressive three round total of 811 (-41).
The 54-hole total is LSU's lowest total in 30 plus years and it had a lot to do with the individual effort of sophomore Luis Gagne. Gagne fired a bogey-free final-round 5-under 66 to go along with his back-to-back 65's in the opening two rounds. The three round total of 196 (-17) gives Gagne his 1st collegiate title in one of the best Tiger performances in recent history.
It wasn't all Gagne, however, the entire LSU team finished inside the top 20 individually including an 8th place finish by sophomore Sam Burns and a tie for 9th finish by senior Brandon Pierce. The Tigers finished five shots ahead of Baylor and 17 ahead of Kent State. Scott Stevens of South Carolina finished runner-up individually with a three-round total of 198 (-15).
