USC claims the Cypress Point Classic

CARMEL, CA (November 1, 2016) -- No. 18 picked up
their first tournament win of the season in fine fashion
on Tuesday at the Cypress Point Classic hosted by
Cypress Point Golf Club.
“It was a phenomenal event on one of the top three
courses in the world. We were lucky to be able to
compete out there,” USC head coach Chris Zambri said.
“But we played great today. It’s interesting when you
play these type of events. Some play phenomenally and
some not quite as well. It’s hard to know how it will turn
out, but it seemed like we were playing really
well.”
Playing against five-seed Georgia Tech in the
championship singles matches three-seed USC won 19.5
of a possible 24 points to win handily over the Yellow
Jackets.
Both teams advanced to the finals with a pair of
wins on Monday in the multi-format event. USC
defeated Alabama in four-balls and then UCLA in
foursomes. The foursomes match ended in a 6-6 tie but
USC advanced by winning more holes throughout the
course of the match
Georgia Tech was able to defeat instate rival
Georgia in four-ball action and then host Stanford in the
foursomes.

ROUND ONE RECAP
USC and Georgia
Tech will meet in the finals of the Cypress Point Classic
hosted by Cypress Point Golf Club.
USC entered the tournament as the No. 3 seed and
faced off against No. 6 Alabama in the morning four-ball
format. The Trojan pair of Justin Suh and Andrew Levitt
swept the Alabama pair of Robby Prater and Steven
Setterstrom to lead USC past the Crimson Tide.
No. 5 Georgia Tech took care of business over No. 4
Georgia, led by a strong performance from the pair of
Chris Petefish and Tyler Joiner.
In afternoon foursomes, Georgia Tech defeated
Stanford 8 points to 4 while USC tied UCLA 6 to 6 but
advanced through the tiebreaker based on total number
of holes won in the match.
The championship match will features six singles
matches to decide the winner between the Yellow
Jackets and Trojans. Stanford and UCLA will played for
third place. The other two matches for fifth and seventh
place will feature California and Wake Forest; Georgia
and Alabama.
