DAYTONA BEACH, FL (December 1, 2016) -- The
second
day of the grueling five round LPGA and Symetra
Tour
Qualifying School Third Stage at LPGA International is in
the books and
South
Carolina senior Katelyn Dambaugh is currently in a
tie
for fourth. Dambaugh, one of 10 amateurs in the
field,
is 6-under and currently in a good position to try and
earn her LPGA Tour card.
The ANNIKA Award runner-up finisher from a
year
ago, Dambaugh was tied for the lead going into the
second round and continued her strong play on
Thursday with 1-under 71. Her second round was
comprised of two birdies and a bogey.
If Dambaugh, the second ranked player in the
Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com Women's Rankings, does
earn her LPGA card and depart for the professional
ranks she would leave No. 13 South Carolina with a
big
gap in their line up to fill. The medalist winner at last
years NCAA Baton Rouge Regional is one of the
best players in South Carolina program history and
she
currently holds
the all-time mark for scoring average at 72.96.
Amateurs Regan De Guzman (T6) and Karen
Chung
(T10) both also reside in the top-10 through 36-
holes.
De Guzman, 6-under, is a recent San Jose State
graduate and she rode a second round 4-under 68
into
a strong qualifying position. The round concluded
with
an
impressive 4-under run from Nos. 15-18. The
highlight
was an eagle on the par-5 18th.
Chung, a senior for No. 2 USC, sits at 4-under
following tallies of 69-71. The All-American finished
her
second round in style with a closing birdie.
