PYMBLE, Australia (January 26, 2017) -- Joshua Armstrong bogeyed the final hole of the third round but it didn't stop him from maintaining his lead heading into the final day at the Australian Avondale Medal Amateur.

Using a 5-under 66 at Avondale Golf Club Armstrong moved to 11-under and he will hold a one-stroke lead over Jack Brah Singh when Friday's final round begins.

“I’m playing solid. And I holed a few more putts today,” Armstrong told Golf Australia following his round.

The first birdies of his round came on Nos. 2 and 3 before another fell on the 7th. After a string of pars the Australian caught fire again and rolled in consecutive birdies from Nos. 13-15.

“It was a nice brace of birdies. The putt on 15 just rolled in. It was the cherry on top of the cake for me, a bit fortunate,” explained Armstrong.

Armstrong's run ended with 16th and 17th hole pars and he needed a 15-foot bogey putt to fall on the last to remain alone in the lead.

England's Jack Brah Singh moved into second place with course record matching 7-under 64. Singh, one of three players to match the course record Thursday, is 10-under and he will be apart of the final group that includes last weeks Australian Amateur medalist Kevin Yuan at 9-under.

On Thursday Singh played flawless golf recording three front nine birdies and four more heading for home.

“I started off solid, with two pars and could’ve made birdies, I hit 16 greens in regulation, and most of them inside 15 feet so many chances to convert," Singh said. "This is my second course record, had one back at home in a County event."

Yuan moved into third with a 5-under 66 and he is one-stroke in front of Australian's Blake Windred and first round leader Shae Wools-Cobb, both of whom share fourth place at 8-under. Windred shot one of the course records 7-under 64's to move into contention. His round was highlighted by an albatross on the par-5 7th.

“My first ever albatross," said Windred. "I had 192, a perfect four iron draw. I started walking after it as soon as it landed soft, it rolled in the hole perfect pace. I didn’t sink in, to be honest, but Mum started yelling.”

The third 7-under 64 went to two-time defending champion Harrison Endycott of Australia as he shot up the leaderboard into a tie for 11th at 4-under. Endycott was boosted in the third round by 3rd and 7th hole eagles.

WOMEN'S DIVISION

The top six spots on the leaderboard are all South Korean's but it is Gayoung Lee who is 25-under and running away with things. With rounds of 63-61-67 Lee has built herself a 12-stroke cushion after three rounds. Thus far through 54-holes Lee has birdied 25 times, eagled once and bogeyed twice.

Seoyun Kwon is second and Somi Lee is third.
