PYMBLE, Australia (January 27, 2017) -- Across the board scores weren't as low on the final day of the Australian Avondale Amateur but that didn't stop Joshua Armstrong from claiming the title at Avondale Country Club. Armstrong closed his week with an even-par 71 that kept him at 11-under and one-stroke in front of runner-up Jack Singh Brar.

As Armstrong headed to the 17th tee, the Australian had a three-stroke lead and appeared to have more than enough breathing room over Singh Brar. However, Armstrong would need all of the cushion that he had previously built up as he stumbled to the finish line with consecutive bogeys to just hold on by a shot.

Even-par through 11 holes, Armstrong was able to build in some room for error with 12th and 14th hole birdies.

Jack Singh Brar started the day one shot off the pace and quickly deepened his hole on the front nine with a 2-over 38 that saw the deficit move to three-strokes. Early on the backside Singh Brar kept himself in touch with 10th and 12th hole birdies but playing the final six holes in even-par proved costly.

Despite the second place finish it was a successful trip to Australia for the Englishmen, as he also made a Round of 16 run at last weeks Australian Amateur.

Bradley Moore of England was third at 8-under, Australian Dylan Perry placed fourth at 7-under while Min Woo Lee of Australia and Canadian Stuart Macdonald shared fifth at 6-under.

Two-time defending champion and Aussie Harrison Endycott ended up in a share of seventh at 5-under.

For the champion Joshua Armstrong the victory was his first career AmateurGolf.com Rankings victory and it came on the heels of his Round of 16 finish at the Australian Amateur.

WOMEN'S DIVISION

In the Women's Division there wasn't nearly as much drama as Gayoung Lee of South Korea finished 28-under and 13 strokes in front of second place finisher Somi Lee.

During the week Gayoung Lee twice set the course record with opening round scores of 63-61 before closing 67-69.

The South Koreans represented the top six places in the standings with Somi Lee tallying a 15-under week and third place finisher Seoyun Kwon posting 13-under.
