THE WOODLANDS, TX (February 19, 2017) -- After a battle down the stretch, Noah Goodwin of Corinth, Texas, claimed the title at the CB&I / Simplify Boys Championship at Carlton Woods. With Goodwin’s tournament rounds of 68-67-67, tournament total of 14-under-par 202, he set the 54-hole scoring record for the tournament. It marks the third time the scoring record has been broken in the last four years. The previous record, set in 2016, was held by Andy Zhang.

Goodwin and Shuai Ming (Ben) Wong of The Woodlands, Texas, began the round in first and second and traded the lead several times throughout the final round. The tournament came down to No. 18 where Goodwin closed out the win.

Goodwin, an SMU commit, ended the tournament with 14 birdies and two eagles through the three tournament rounds. The 2018 graduate felt the win was a good contrast to the close calls of last year.

“I came close a lot last year, I put myself in a lot of good chances, I was just never really able to get it done,” Goodwin said. “So to come back from being a couple of shots down at the beginning of the day and to be able to close out, it really means a lot.”

In 2016, Goodwin had four top-10 finishes5 at AJGA Invitationals but didn’t notch a win before being named the Rolex Junior Player of the Year.

Wong led for the first two rounds and closed out the tournament with 17 birdies and only four bogies during the tournament. His tournament rounds of 65-67-71, tournament total of 13-under-par 203, would have tied the previous tournament record.

Rounding out the top 5 were Michael Sanders of Davidson, North Carolina, at 12-under-par 204, Kaiwen Liu of San Diego, California, at 10-under-par 206 and Wocheng (Aden) Ye of Lake Mary, Florida, 8-under-par 208.
