PALM HARBOR, FL (March 10, 2017) -- The PGA Tour debut of Jimmy Stanger will conclude after just two rounds at the Valspar Championship but not after he showed some flashes of brilliance.

Following a first round 5-over 76 at the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort, Stanger was three shots better in the second round with a 2-over 73.

The Virginia senior who grew up in Tampa, FL started his second round on the 10th hole and birdied three of his first five holes but also double-bogeyed the 13th to get off to a 1-under start.

Eight consecutive pars followed before Stanger reached 3-over for the tournament with a 5th hole birdie. However, down the stretch the wheels feel off a bit as Stanger finished with four straight bogeys.

Stanger competed his week at 7-over.

FIRST ROUND RESTART RECAP

Unfortunately the Valspar Championship first round restart didn't go the way that Jimmy Stanger drew it up. After playing solidly through his first 14 holes on Thursday, Stanger struggled to rediscover his grove on Friday morning.

Playing at the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort Stanger, making his PGA Tour debut, returned to course at 7:40 a.m. EST and completed the final four holes of his first round in 4-over.

Just 1-over when play resumed, Stanger bogeyed twice and double-bogeyed once on his way to the house and an opening round 5-over 76.

The Tampa, FL native and Virginia senior will now have to dig deep in order to make the cut. Stanger does have a chance to rebound quickly however as he began his second off the back side at 8:51 a.m.

Thursday Recap

With the first round of the Valspar Championship hosted by the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook Resort suspended Virginia senior Jimmy Stanger is 1-over through 14 holes.

Play was suspended on Thursday due to darkness at 6:43 p.m. and is scheduled to resume on Friday morning at 7:40 a.m.

Making his PGA Tour debut, Stanger started on the front side and bogeyed the 2nd and 5th hole to start his day 2-over. Despite the slow start Stanger would settle in and just two holes later he rolled in his first career birdie on the 8th hole to move to 1-over.

Stanger then closed his day with six consecutive pars. When play resumes Friday morning Stanger will have four holes remaining in his first round.

Teeing it up in the Valspar Championship on a sponsorship exemption, Stanger is from Tampa, FL, and he grew up just 45 minutes away from host course Innisbrook Resort.
