PACIFIC GROVE, California (May 6, 2017) -- The AmateurGolf.com Tour competes at some of the finest resort courses in California. But one of our favorite venues is a "muni" in little Pacific Grove, where anyone can stop by and play golf along the famed 17 Mile Drive for under $75. It's short, quirky, and subject to the ever changing winds and weather of its more famous neighbors Pebble Beach and Spyglass Hill.

Today, players contended with some stout winds, and temperatures in the low 50s. But there was no rain, and we were all dressed for it, so it's no surprise that many under par scores were posted in both the Senior (scratch) and Net Divisions.

Frank Pieper and Jeff Britton both played steady golf and put up a leading score of 3-under 67 in the Senior Division. (They started off particularly hot, with five-straight threes on hole Nos. 18 through 4.) Britton and Pieper, who play out of Monterey Peninsula Country Club, are trailed by old buddies Wayne Bass (Clayton) and Michael Harding (Encinitas) who fired 68 plus Geoff Couch (also out of MPCC) and Kevin Kobalter of Meadow Club.

In the Net Division, a little wind didn't stop Gary Beene and Del Masters from going low - the San Jose duo posted 8-under 62 to lead Frank Borges and Brad Pezoldt (both of Modesto) by two shots. Another stroke back at 65, and well within striking distance, is another Modesto team, Butch Pirrone and Tom Slater.

If you're wondering why there are so many Modesto and Turlock hometowns on the scoreboard, that's because Marc Sanders (an AmateurGolf.com regular contestant) redirected an annual buddies trip to our tournament. Marc - remind us to buy you a beer tomorrow.

Our final round is another 8:00am shotgun. Lunch and awards will be presented immediately after play.

ABOUT THE AmateurGolf.com 2017 Monterey Four-Ball presented by Callaway Golf

Fun two man event at the wonderful Pacific Grove Golf Links, known to many as "The Poor Man's Pebble Beach." That's because the back nine plays right along the Pacific Ocean in an out-and-back links style layout.
