BLUFFTON, SC – (July 14, 2017) High temperatures at Berkeley Hall didn’t equal high scores during the second round of the 18th annual Players Amateur held on the club’s North Course.

University of Kentucky senior Cooper Musselman shot a bogey free 4-under on Friday for a two-day total 7-under 135. His round was good enough to end the day in the lead. Musselman wasn’t going to let the 92 degree temperature get the best of him, “The heat has been ridiculous, I am not really used to that,” said the Louisville, Kentucky native. “I am still trying to hydrate and get used to it. I have been drinking about a bottle of water a hole.”

Will Grimmer’s 6-under 65 was the low round of the day. The Ohio State junior went bogey free to go into the third round tied for second place with Theo Humphrey. Humphrey, a senior at Vanderbilt, shot 4-under to bring his two-day total to a 6-under 136.

Seven contestants are two behind the leader, including first round co-leader William Rainey, who rallied after carding a 9 on the par 4 #10. “For some reason, I really wasn’t that mad,” said the College of Charleston grad. “Sometimes when you make a really bad score you are not as mad as making a bogey or just a double.” He went on to birdie hole #11 and added two more birdies on the back nine to finish 1-under par to bring his two-day total to a 5-under 137.

In all, 29 players shot rounds in the 60s on the day, and 31 players are currently under par through two rounds.

Defending champion Cheng Jin shot a second-round 69 and is currently tied for 18th at two under par.
