Josh Branyon won by six shots at the Seabrook Island Club

SEABROOK ISLAND, SC (October 8, 2017) - With a three round total of six under par, Josh Branyon captured the 36th SCGA Mid-Amateur Championship contested on the Ocean Winds Course at the Seabrook Island Club on Seabrook Island, SC.
Players were greeted with calm conditions once again as they tried to navigate the difficult Ocean Winds layout. Josh Branyon was able to go wire to wire to capture his second SCGA Mid-Amateur Championship. His round included three birdies and three bogeys as he was able to hold off a late round charge by Beaufort’s Matt O’Quinn. A final round of even par 72 and three round total of 210 put Branyon six shots clear of O’Quinn.
Matt O’Quinn (Beaufort) finished the Championship alone in second place after a final round of 75 and three day total of even par 216. Michael Maness (Greenville) birdied five of his final nine holes to shoot even par 72 and finish alone in third place at three over par 219. Simpsonville’s Robert Lutomski struggled on his outward nine but battled back with three birdies coming in to finish alone in fourth place at four over par 220.
After 36 holes, the field was cut to the low 60 players and ties. 61 players shot a two round total of 165 or better to play in Sunday’s final round.
ROUND TWO RECAP
Josh Branyon continued his steady play during the second round of the 36th SCGA Mid-Amateur Championship being played on the Ocean Winds Course at the Seabrook Island Club on Seabrook Island, SC.
Players were faced with little to no wind and clear blue skies throughout the second round that led to several good rounds on moving day. First round leader Josh Branyon (Honea Path) didn't let off the gas carding four birdies and one bogey on his next to last hole in route to a second straight round of 69. The 2011 SCGA Mid-Amateur Champion will carry a three shot lead heading into Sunday’s Final Round.
Sitting alone in second place is Matt O'Quinn (Beaufort) after shooting a second round of two under par 70. Michael Maness (Greenville), Todd Hendley (Greer), and Robert Lutomski (Simpsonville) are all tied for third place at 147 heading into Sunday. Defending champion Chris Eassy (Greer) fired a second round of one over par 73 to find himself in a tie for seventh place.
The cut line fell at 165 with 61 players advancing to Sunday’s Final Round.
The final round will begin on Sunday at 8.00 am off of holes #1 and #10.
ROUND ONE RECAP

Players battled gusty winds and periods of rain all day on the difficult Ocean Winds layout. First Round leader Josh Branyon (Honea Path) didn't let the conditions stop him from posting an opening round of three under par 69. Branyon got off to a steady start going one over through the first five and closed out his front nine with birdies on holes six through nine for 33. One birdie and one bogey on the inward nine resulted in an even par 36 and three shot lead heading into the second round.
Sitting alone in second place is Matt O'Quinn (Beaufort) after shooting a one under par 71. After and even par round of 72, Duane Barnes (Simpsonville) finds himself in third place. Tied for fourth place are Simpsonville residents Yancey Johnson and Robert Lutomski along with Greenville’s Jeremy Revis at two over par 74.
The second round will begin on Saturday at 8.00 am off of #1 tee.
