PALATKA, FL (March 10, 2018) - Marcus Beck followed up an opening 66 with a second round 70 and at 136 he will carry a three shot lead into the final round of the Florida Azalea Senior Amateur. Beck is in search in his second straight win after capturing the Moot Thomas Senior Memorial last weekend.
Playing at Palatka Golf Club David Anthony (69-70--139) is in second place, Pat O'Donnell (72-68--140) is third, defending champion Doug Hanzel (72-69--141) picked up some ground and is in fourth while Bart Dornier (69-73--142) is fifth.
In the Super Senior Division after starting the day one back it is Pete McDade (70-70--140) in front by two shots over first round leader Ed Pierce (69-73--142).
Behind the leaders are David Crocker (70-73--143) in third, Denny Taylor (72-72--144) in fourth and Don Russell (72-73--145) in fifth.
The Legends Division lead is now in the lead of just one, after sharing the first round advantage Joe Pavoni (67-70--137) is two clear of first round co-leader Don Marsh (67-72--139).
Brian Sachs (69-74--143) is third, in fourth it is Bill Engel (72-72--144) while fifth is held by Steve Melnyk (69-76--145).
ROUND ONE RECAP
Marcus Beck was sharp on day one of the Florida Azalea Senior Amateur carding a 66 to take a three-stroke lead with two rounds remaining. Playing at Palatka Golf Club Beck is looking for a second straight win after capturing the Moot Thomas Senior Memorial last weekend.
David Anthony and Bart Dornier are sharing second following 69's, John Milton after a 70 is fourth while Robert Parker, Allen Peake and Leon Roday are sharing fifth after 71's.
Defending champion Doug Hanzel is one shot further back at 72 in a tie for eighth along with seven other players.
In the Super Senior Division Ed Pierce is leading by one after a 69. David Crocker and Pete McDade are sharing second at 70 while Berger Warner and Bill Zylstra opened in 71 to share fourth.
The lead in the Legends Division is being shared by Don Marsh and Joe Pavoni following 67's, Steve Melnyk and Brian Sachs are tied for third at 69 with Jack Heinemann one shot further back in fifth.
