CALGARY, Canada (June 16, 2018) - Rising West Virginia junior Étienne Papineau concluded his week with the lone under-par round of the final day as he won the Glencoe Invitational by four shots.
Papineau closed with birdies on Nos. 16 and 18 to finish the week at Glencoe Golf & Country Club 1-over following rounds of 71-76-70. A native of Quebec, Canada and one of the top junior players in Canada in 2015, Papineau started slowly with a double-bogey on the 2nd but quickly righted the ship playing the rest of the round in 4-under. Papineau rolled in birdies on Nos. 7, 10, 12, 16 and 18 with just a lone bogey on the 13th.
Jared Nicolls (South Dakota State) put some late pressure on Papineau playing the back nine in a bogey-free 2-under 34 but ultimately settled for a 5-over second place showing while Calvin Ross (Texas State), junior golfer Jeevan Sihota and Scott Kerr (Simon Fraser) shared third at 6-over.
ABOUT THE
Glencoe Invitational
The Glencoe Invitational was established in 1992 to
allow for high level tournament golf to be played
prior to Canada's national provincial championships.
The tournament took a three year hiatus during
2012
thru 2014 to restore our Robert Trent Jones II
course, The Forest, to its former glory.
The Glencoe Invitational field of players is typically
made up those in the top 50 on the Golf Canada
Order of Merit, Provincial Champions, Canada’s
National team as well as players
referred from other golf associations. A Women's
Division was introduced in 2020.
