Scenic is the Word in Mission Viejo
Carlsbad, CA – (June 10, 2005) --amateurgolf.com today announced that it has added three new
events to the popular amateurgolf.com Tournament Series, with a focus on expanding
into Southern California.
The amateurgolf.com website, which went online in 2000, is well known among
avid tournament players around the country for its comprehensive tournament
database of over 1000 events. In California, where the company was founded,
amateurgolf.com also runs serious amateur tournaments at top daily-fee and private
clubs.
As opposed to a traditional ‘tour’ the amateurgolf.com Tournament
Series consists of a limited number of high quality events of at least 36 holes
that are played on the same courses at the same time each year. The events,
which until now have been primarily held in Northern California (with the exception
of travel events to Bandon Dunes and Torrey Pines) are designed as long-term
fixtures on the regional golf landscape. An example is the amateurgolf.com Monterey
Bay Championship, which was played for the 5th time over Memorial Day weekend
with a top field of 120 players at Bayonet/Black Horse and a sudden-death playoff
required to crown a champion.
”We now run 10 NCGA Points events in Northern California, including an
event with a statewide field, The amateurgolf.com California Mid Amateur in
April” said Wlodkowski. “Now that we have begun to fill out our
Northern California schedule, we’re ready to provide the same quality
of event, at select courses in the Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego
areas.”
The new events are as follows: (please contact us for course photos, amateurgolf.com
logo, etc.)
The amateurgolf.com Match Play Championship, Sept 16-18 at The Club
at Roddy Ranch in Antioch
For the first time ever, amateurgolf.com will stage a match play event this
September at the wonderful Club at Roddy Ranch in Antioch. The course was built
by Hall of Fame cowboy Jack Roddy, on his ranch in San Francisco’s East Bay.
It should provide the perfect setting for our match play event, in which three
divisional champions will be crowned. 16 players in each division (Scratch,
Senior Scratch, and Net) will be comprised of the top 8 players each from the
amateurgolf.com Tournament Series ‘points’ list for 2005, and 8 players each
from an 18-hole qualifier on Friday, Sept 16. Two matches will be played on
Saturday, and two matches on Sunday. Entry fee is $75 for the qualifier and
$150 for those playing on the weekend. More info and online registration is
available at www.amateurgolf.com/tour.
The amateurgolf.com Mission Viejo Championship, Sept 24-25 at Arroyo
Trabuco Golf Club in Mission Viejo
The amateurgolf.com Mission Viejo Championship is being played at Arroyo Trabuco
Golf Club designed by Tom Lehman and Casey O’Callaghan. The course opened for
play in 2004 to rave reviews from the media and players, who appreciate the
value offered with sub-$100 weekend greens fees, rare for a California course
of this quality. Arroyo Trabuco’s convenient location just minutes from the
5 Freeway in Mission Viejo will draw a competitive field from all over Southern
California, and amateurgolf.com expects several of our Northern California ‘regulars’
to enter as well. The field is expected to be 60% Scratch Players, 20% Senior
Players, and 20% in the Limited-Handicap Net Division. Play will be 18 holes
of stroke play Saturday, 18 holes on Sunday with no cut. Entry criteria and
online registration can be found at www.amateurgolf.com/tour.
The amateurgolf.com San Diego County Amateur, November 7-8 at The Golf
Club of California in Fallbrook
Another first for amateurgolf.com is a midweek event at a private golf club,
The Golf Club of California. A Wade Cable - Landmark/Johnny Pott design, The
Golf Club of California is managed by Landmark Golf with Scott Bentley, PGA
serving as Director of Golf. ”We have already hosted several professional events
at The Golf Club of California,” said Bentley. “We look forward to introducing
the area’s top amateurs to our facility, which should be in great shape in early
November.” Play will be 18 holes of stroke play Monday, November 7, 18 holes
on Tuesday, November 8, with no cut. More info and online registration is available
at www.amateurgolf.com/tour.
