Still riding the momentum of its record-setting win two weeks ago at the UCF Challenge, Wake Forest and freshman
Carolina Chaccara picked up their second win in as many outings on Wednesday, as the Demon Deacons captured the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate held at Long Cove Golf Club in Hilton Head, SC.
Wake Forest, ranked fifth in the Golfweek/Sagarin poll, took a six-stroke lead over Arizona State into the final round and survived a 6-over 290 to win its second consecutive Darius Rucker Intercollegiate by nine shots over No. 4 South Carolina.
The Gamecocks turned in the low round of the day with a 1-under 283 to move into second place, but ultimately had too much ground to make up.
The Demon Deacons took control of the tournament after recording a 4-under 280 in the second round and weren't threatened over the final 18 holes en route to their fourth win in six tournaments this season.
Chacarra, the younger sister of Oklahoma State standout Eugenio Chacarra, began the day tied for second place two shots behind Arizona State freshman
Calynne Rosholt, but quickly moved into the driver's seat by running off four consecutive birdies on holes 2-5 to move to 6-under for the tournament.
She quickly erased a bogey on six with her fifth birdie on the par-4 seventh hole to make the turn at 32. She weathered a pair of bogeys on her inward nine for her second consecutive 2-under round of 69 and at 4-under 209, claimed a two-shot win over
Bohyun Park of Texas.
It was the second consecutive individual title for the Spaniard, who earned medalist honors at the UFC Challenge two weeks ago when she shot a 10-under 62 in the final round. She is the first Wake Forest women's golfer since Stephanie Neill in 1991-92 to win multiple events as a freshman.
Celina Sattelkau of Vanderbilt and Rosholt tied for third at 1-under 212.
