Heading for the finals after a tough battle:
Trygve Mikkelsen, Andrew (caddie), and Vince Sakowski

For the second straight year, AmateurGolf.com assembled a group of like-minded individuals for an extracurricular trip to the wonderful Cabot Cape Breton Resort in Nova Scotia. The resort is positioned alongside sister properties known as "Dream Golf" destinations. And trust us, every day feels like a dream when you wake up looking at gorgeous links holes with stunning water backdrops.

In the Championship bracket, Donald Miller and his son Zachary from the Atlanta area defeated Jeff Eiserman and Kirk Viehl 5&4 and will face Clay Hightower (Houston) and Ramsey McCreary (Park City, Utah). The Hightower and McCreary team faced a tough match with Joseph and Joseph Mark Kowalski of Scottsdale -- they won by a margin of 2&1.

Even closer was the match between Jay Hoag and Ron Johnson (both of Atherton, Calif.) against Kevin Fix and Mark Williamson of Dublin, Ohio in the first flight. After tying in regulation, it took five extra holes on the Nest par three course to determine the winner.

Williamson hit the pin and bounced out after hitting a crisp birdie chip on the fourth extra hole, but Johnson was able to close out the match for he and his partner with a solid shot into No.5 and easy two-putt.

Hoag and Johnson will face Brian Blaushild and Alex Fuller in the final. The Ohio-based team defeated Mark Flynn and Jesse Rogers of California, 3&1 to advance.

Final green hugs were also shared by Vince Sakowski of Menlo Park, Calif. and his partner Trygve Mikkelsen of North Palm Beach, Florida. With the local knowledge of his Florida winter caddie, who summers at Cabot, Mikkelsen converted a winning putt on the last hole to win 1-up. The Sakowski and Mikkelsen team will face father and son team George and Joshua Hogan of Portland, Maine in the final. The Hogans defeated Terry Demmon and Ken Diekroeger, 4&3 to advance.

Not to worry about those that didn't win today, they get to play a consolation match for prizes and a trophy on our final day at Cabot tomorrow. We'll be sad to go home.
