The top-ranked UCLA men's golf team made up 11 shots on the final day to win by 13 strokes at the Sixth Annual Gifford Collegiate Championship Wednesday at the CordeValle Resort in San Martin, Calif.

The Bruins posted a tournament-best team score of 347 (-8) for a 54-hole total of 1,074 (+9). Second round leader Stanford ballooned to 371 (+16) and finished at 1,087 (+22). Northwestern placed third at 1,099 (+34), followed by fourth place USC and Washington at 1,104 (+39).

Freshman Patrick Cantlay led wire-to-wire for the Bruins, posting a three-round total of 207 (-6), including a score of 71 (E) on Wednesday. Cantlay outlasted several players, including 2007 Gifford champion Sihwan Kim, but he eventually placed 6th at even par. Cantlay becomes the third individual champion for the Bruins this fall, joining sophomores Pontus Widegren (Fall Preview) and Mario Clemens (Cal Poly Invitational).

Low scoring honors for the day went to sophomore Pedro Figueiredo who was 17-over par entering the round. After firing a 66 (-5) in the final round he climbed 35 spots up the leader board into a tie for 38th at 12-over 225. Figueiredo birdied his last four holes to give the Bruins the winning edge.

The Bruins welcomed two other under par rounds on Wednesday from junior Gregor Main and sophomore Mario Clemens. Main posted a two-under par 69 and tied for seventh place at 215 (+2), an improvement of six spots, and Clemens carded a one-under par score of 70 and tied for 11th at 217 (+11). Sophomore Pontus Widegren, who was five-under par at one point on Wednesday, posted a 71 (E) and tied for 20th at 221 (+8). Senior Connor Driscoll tied for 44th place at 226 (+13)

Three UCLA players also competed as individuals. Junior Alex Shi Yup Kim tied for 18th at 220 (+7) after posting a 74 (+3); freshman Anton Arboleda tied for 26th place at 223 (+10) after carding a final round score of 73 (+2) and sophomore Bobby Lange tied for 56th at 230 (+15) following a score of 75 (+4).
